Tinder Translator by Aileen Barratt - Audiobook | Scribd Tinder Translator by Aileen Barratt - Audiobook | Scribd

Honestly the chapter where she translates "Looking to date and see what happens" was absolutely * chefs kiss * beautiful. Can't stop thinkin about it. She makes the argument that it is healthier for women to date from a place of knowing what they want instead of being “not sure” or waiting to “see what happens” and that if a guy isn’t sure what he wants that you will save yourself a lot of heartache if you swipe left and look for someone who is better able to articulate their needs and expectations. I couldn’t agree more! The no-drama guys will have you believe it’s you who is immature or irrational for wanting more than Netflix and sex when nothing could be further from the truth.

Whenever I talk about raising the bar and not settling [in relationships], I always get responses along the lines of, “But what if I keep my high standards and don’t find anyone who meets them?” This tier is here because, well, if you don't ask, you don't get! If you're a supporter who has the means to invest in me and in Tinder Translators in this way then please do! Of course, you'll have all the benefits of the other tiers and I will send a little something extra in the mail every month too! I feel for her, and for every other man and woman adrift in this sad sea of digital anomie. I’m not sure what the solution to the problem is, except maybe the Fall of the West (stand by for that) or at least the collapse of our energy grid, which would take the internet with it. Sure, it would make life less convenient for a while, but it would improve the mental health of a lot of people, especially a lot of young women. I enjoyed the way this book was structured and obviously the author is hilarious. She manages to add a much needed amount of sarcasm to make all the behaviors bearable! I loved everything about this! Except the misogynistic a*holes depicted obviously! Who likes those?

Tinder Interview with Aileen Barratt - The woman behind Tinder

Tinder Translator is a hilarious and revealing feminist commentary on dating apps and the patriarchy, from Aileen Barratt of @TinderTranslators. Ten years after the introduction of Tinder, dating apps have changed the terrain of human interaction, but many feel like they've been sent into the wilderness without a guide. For those dating cis-het men especially, the blatant misogyny encountered during every swipe session is depressing and enraging in equal measure. I love how Aunty Aileen constantly speaks to the reader and tells us our worth. This book has given me the confidence and confirmation that my standards and expectations aren’t too high, and that there’s nothing wrong with knowing what I want from dating apps and the boundaries I set for interactions on said apps. Tinder is available in 190 countries and 40+ languages. To adjust your languages preferences in the app or at Tinder.com, please follow the instructions below. On Android:

The Tinder Translator: The 10 funniest things I have ever

Just looking for some fun” means “I’m just looking for sex.” “No drama” in all caps—the translation there is “don’t have emotions, opinions or challenge me in any way.”

What these men count as drama is, for the most part, the natural progression of a relationship. At first, it won’t be a problem. It’s actually emotionally sensible not to dive headfirst into an all-consuming love affair with a stranger. Some of her observations are funny: i.e. that men calling themselves entrepreneurs are usually going nowhere, and pose before expensive cars (in dealership lots) to give the impression they’re wealthy. It’s the male equivalent of those “snapchat filters” girls use to overlay their actually appearances with weird digital masks. Have you ever, after three or four months, tentatively asked if maybe the “situationship” you’ve found yourselves in is, you know, going anywhere? All too often these perfectly reasonable requests are framed as “too much”.

Trying to be what some men imagine as a ‘normal girl’ is an unsustainable feat. You might manage it for years, but eventually, you’ll start being more you. And he won’t like that. Worse than that, by dimming your own light or shining it all on him, you’ll never feel seen or loved as the whole person you are. And that shit is soul destroying, trust me.”

The 10 funniest things I’ve seen on this internet, you say? No problemo. I’ve been training for this for quite a while. All those nights scrolling TikTok and giggling to myself before suddenly realising it is hideously late? They were research! In your face, circadian rhythms!
