I'm also not going to uphold the reverence of the KJ many people have, it is simply impossible to understand and will struggle to connect to non-believers.Their extensive treatment of the genres of Scripture is beneficial to all believers, regardless of their level of theological acumen. The authors conclude with a helpful, if not exactly robust, appendix on evaluating and using commentaries, both Old and New Testament, for both the general reader and advanced students. The authors of this book labor under no illusions that by reading and following our guidelines everyone will finally agree on the "plain meaning," our meaning! All in all, this has been a deeply valuable reference for learning to read the Bible--and to explain to others how they can better understand it themselves and find relevant life application.Of particular relevance is the authors' assertion that "one does not have to be an expert to learn to do the basic tasks of exegesis.
