About this deal

Austin’s ability to consistently kick crucial goals for the Blues has seen her gain attention from the league’s leading defenders, a challenge that the young gun has been excited to face.

Carlton Football Club acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which IKON Park is located, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. She said there had been previous choking incidents, including another at the holiday park when she choked on a burger. With the pressures that come with Austin’s Rising Star, Polatajko has given the 19-year-old reassurance that her team will support her the whole time. Despite having this life-changing condition, Mia refused to give up and focused on living her life to the fullest, while also helping others.Mia Austin, 29, from Bebington defied the odds after being diagnosed with locked-in syndrome in 2009. I, too have a Tobii Dynavox I-12 series, and it is the fastest way I have found to communicate with the outer world! To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

During her time on the sidelines, Austin was able to tap into the knowledge of the experienced Carlton forward line, with Jess Dal Pos, Brea Moody, Phoebe McWilliams and Darcy Vescio being the sounding boards for the 19-year-old. She died just two days before she was named Merseyside Woman of 2019 for her charity work and had been excited at the prospect of attending the ceremony, the inquest heard. A week after opening her eyes, Mia was diagnosed with ‘Locked-in Syndrome’, a condition where Mia has been left her trapped in her own body, unable to speak.

Heartbreakingly, Mia passed away on Wednesday, June 26 - just two days before she was named Merseyside's Woman of the Year. With her Round 8 AFLW Rising Star nomination bookending what has been a more than impressive first full season at Carlton, Austin has shown through her determined comeback to her scintillating form that this is just the start of a highlight-filled career. Mia Austin, 30, had seen Love Island contestants challenge each other to fit as many marshmallows in their mouths as possible. Everyday things we take for granted like speech and communication etc she had to find in a completely different way.

Mrs Austin had told the inquest her daughter had gradually learned how to eat soft food after the stroke, but had also experienced choking incidents before. Mia Austin, from the Wirral in Merseyside, was visiting a holiday park in north Wales when she tried to eat a marshmallow, an inquest in Caernarfon heard. But the inquest was told Mia suffered from "locked-in syndrome" - and was unable to cough up the sweet.

I feel like even before I got injured and when I was injured I was still learning from them," she said. While holidaying at the park in Abersoch in June this year, Ms Austin indicated to her mother and carer she wanted to eat a marshmallow. She wanted to win so she could raise more awareness about the issues close to her heart and to extend her charity work. She was not only inspirational with her positive attitude after what she has been through, but she was a kind person and would put others before herself.
