This is the first romance book I picked up in the good year of our lord 2023 and I proceeded to spend the next 12 months CHASING the romantic tension high this right here darn novel gave me. And while that could be seen as a bad thing, to some people, it gives their relationship, that turn between love and hate, a very grounded feel. Unlike Lucy, he doesn't try to make friends with everyone, and the reason for his standoffishness is revealed later.

With that amount of anger and mistrust, it takes time to go off the offensive and heck the defensive. My favourite author is Cassandra Clare and I also enjoy books by Rick Riordan, Sarah J Mas, Marrisa Meyer, Marie Lu, etc etc. I liked the characters well enough and really felt for them during some scenes, but I just never 100% committed to them. Yes he was kind and helpful to Lucy, but I wanted to shove him down to the ground and instead push Josh into her face and scream pick him!After a glorious night of sex, Lucy does a “save my man” move that I didn’t think was all that necessary (but oh well) and realises that she deeply loves Joshua. And then she begins to describe Joshua's and she says he has blue Post-Its and that his desk is the very male version of hers. Sometimes, if we’re lucky, he’s also rich, for an injection of glamour and hopefully some expensive parting gifts for our heroine once she figures out she needs to dump the asshole.

Once, I did, the pace definitely picked up and I was invested in the outcome and the characters’ lives/relationship. Apart from actively seeking them out on Goodreads I hadn’t seen anyone else feel negatively towards this book and was beginning to worry I’d hallucinated it all.

After they kiss again, Josh asks her to sort out things with Danny first, as he does not want to be just a fling for her. At a company paintball event a few days later, Lucy collapses due to a fever and is brought home by Josh, who has her checked by his brother Pat, a physician.
