About this deal

Put simply, that means that the GHS key action has weighted keys so the lower notes are heavier than the higher notes, as is typical on an acoustic piano. Collection and delivery costs are included for the first 2 years in the event of an item becoming faulty The YDP-145 features a piano Voice sampled from Yamaha’s flagship CFX concert grand piano—a renowned piano that delivers sparkling highs and a powerful resonant bass combined in a superbly expressive sound.

One of the standout features of the Yamaha YDP-145 digital piano is its exceptional sound quality. It produces a rich and authentic sound that replicates the tonal qualities of a real acoustic piano. The instrument’s sound is well-balanced, with clear bass and treble response that is sure to impress even the most discerning pianists. Traditionally, when you wear headphones, the sound can become overwhelming during long sessions, meaning you need to take off your headphones. The luxurious tone and expressive ease of playing stays true to the basics of a real piano. It almost plays itself, releasing the sound and music you have within. Start your day with music and a huge smile on your face—the YDP-145 piano makes you want to play more and more. Key Features:

Success

The Yamaha YDP-145 is a solid mid-range digital piano that offers a range of useful features for players of all skill levels. It has a realistic sound quality and adjustable touch response, as well as a solid build quality that can withstand regular use. However, the YDP-145/S35 does not support Bluetooth connectivity (the UD-BT01 wireless Bluetooth adapter does not support the Smart Pianist app). Finally, there’s the Stereophonic Optimizer. This effect is only active when listening through headphones, and simulates the natural feeling of playing a real concert grand while seated in the usual position on the bench, rather than being close to the strings (which is the close-mic position used for some of the samples).

The default CFX grand preset, which was previously only available on Yamaha’s high-end Clavinova digital pianos, manages to capture the balanced bass and silky smooth highs of the original, nailing the original’s ability to fit into any genre, be it classical or contemporary. As noted, the YDP-145 includes USB audio functionality. This means you can record the excellent CFX samples directly through a USB connection, rather than needing to deal with the hassle of an external audio interface. You may wonder how it is possible to have 32, 64, or even 128 notes playing simultaneously, if there are only 88 keys and we never play them all at once. The CFX engine also got some upgrades over the original YDP-144/S34. The big difference is the new Virtual Resonance Modeling Lite (VRM Lite) modelling component, which is again ported down from the Clavinovas. All you need to do is connect the YDP-145/S35 to your PC. Once the necessary drivers were installed, my digital audio workstation recognized the YDP-145, and I could immediately start recording the audio outs.

The app itself allows you to tweak the YDP-145’s settings through your smart device’s touchscreen interface. For people like me, this is a definite improvement over the unmarked button/key combinations on the default machine. Besides being a fully-specced, great-sounding digital piano, the big selling point of the CSP ‘Smart’ Clavinovas is the StreamLights guide system that uses a strip of LEDs across the width of the piano to tell you what notes to play and when. A genuinely useful educational aid when coupled with the Smart Pianist app, this makes the CSP range an attractive proposition for beginners looking for an innovative way to learn piano. The Yamaha YDP 145 Digital Piano offers incredible realism in its feel and performance. Featuring the soundset of a painstakingly sampled Yamaha CFX piano - Yamaha's flagship concert grand - the YDP 145 uses cutting edge resonance modelling and an intelligent physical cabinet design to recreate the natural vibrancy and reverberation that you would experience when playing an acoustic grand piano. The digital and physical design of this piano combine to beautifully showcase both the sonorous lows and the sparkling highs of the fantastically well-recorded concert grand. Naturally, the YDP-145 has an authentic grand piano sound, but it also features various other built-in instrument sounds, for a total of 10 Voices—including electric piano, organ, vibraphone, and strings.

Intelligent Acoustic Control (IAC) claims to dynamically adjust the sound quality based on the overall volume of the instrument. However, the sounds are good right out of the box, and that’s really the most important thing for a digital piano. Overall, we give the Yamaha YDP-145 a final grade of A-. It is a high-quality instrument that is well worth the investment for anyone looking for a reliable and high-performing digital piano. Finally, there is the pedal port, which is where the soft/sostenuto/damper pedal setup gets connected. The Yamaha Clavinova CLP-735 has all of the features and functions of the YDP-184 but with a better, and noticeably less heavy key action with faster response plus many more things you can do with the piano. The Clavinova CLP-735 also has the addition of a beautiful European Bosendorfer grand piano sound not available in the Arius pianos, and comes with a much longer warranty. To rectify this, special microphones are positioned in place of the player to more accurately recreate the experience of playing. In terms of functionality, the YDP-145 has most of the basic wants you’d need from a furniture-style digital piano, and all of the moving parts, such as the music stand and the key covers, function identically to acoustic concert grands. With the positive praise out of the way, let’s discuss what I dislike about the YDP-145/S35’s design. I really dislike the minimal control scheme. The sounds found on the new Arius models are more meticulously sampled from the flagship Yamaha CFX Concert Grand piano, a highly acclaimed piano that’s found in top concert venues around the world.
