Jimmy Shand (1908–2000) – Scottish accordionist, made famous by his unique Scottish Country Dance Band and popularity for dances. Acoustic-digital hybrid accordions also exist. They are acoustic accordions (with reeds, bellows, and so on), but they also contain sensors, electronics, and MIDI connections, which provides a wider range of sound options. An acoustic-digital hybrid may be manufactured in this form, or it may be an acoustic accordion which has had aftermarket electronics sensors and connections added. Various hybrid accordions have been created between instruments of different buttonboards and actions. Many remain curiosities – only a few have remained in use: Charles Magnante was one of the most recognizable accordionists in music history. He started the Magnante Quartet which was known as the world’s first professional accordion chamber quartet. The quartet achieved great success but Charles will always be remembered for being the first accordion player to play the instrument for the first time ever in Carnegie Hall. The whole hinges improbably on the possibly fictional Parisian version of “Poems on the Underground”, here called “Verse on the Move” – with the thought that we don’t look for poetry, rather poetry finds us. Guido Deiro was an international recording accordion/piano superstar, teacher, and composer. Deiro was the first ever accordionist to be featured on the popular vaudeville shows which were the most popular form of American entertainment from the 1880s to the 1930s.
