As a standalone set, they make a great display piece, and if you’re a fan of birds, you’ll definitely enjoy building or displaying them. I can see these being really popular sets, like 40524 Sunflowers or roses come Valentine’s Day! From the rear things don’t look as great – again that heart just doesn’t seem as polished as the rest of the set.

Valentine’s Lovebirds is available now from LEGO.com and LEGO stores, and is a really fun couples set that you can look forward to building with your partner, or crush this Valentine’s Day. The assembled Love Bird set is very adorable. The birds are mounted on 2×2 turntables, allowing for a limited amount of posing. But no matter which way you turn them, they still feel like they’re having a great time together.I also think that if these birds were turned into official sets they would be inspirational to both children and adults and would be a great gift for anybody. They would sell very well in zoos, museums, wildlife centres, and of course the LEGO store. As you can se, both birds are identical, with variances in the colour. I’m not an expert on birds, so I’m not sure if the colours are supposed to denote their sex.

Oh and last but not least, you also get a teaser of the next LEGO Seasonal set – 40523 Easter Rabbits on the box and in the instruction manual!

LEGO have couples in mind with the set, and as you can see, you get 2 instruction booklets so you can build together, which I think is a brilliant date idea for Valentine’s Day, especially if you’re looking to get your significant other into LEGO, or if you’re thinking of a cute little gift. I find birds a great subject to build with LEGO and I'm sure from the great response I have had on this project that thousands of other people would too.

These three birds are well recognised around the world and would allow a larger target market as there is one European bird, one North American bird and a tropical bird. Note that I changed the orientation of the lower bird to make their beaks touch, which I think looks much better.

Below I have listed three small birds that came top in a recent supporter vote. I think these could easily be recreated by LEGO's professional builders. I really enjoy matching the different colours and features of our beautiful feathered friends and I hope that one day anybody else can have the chance to build their own bird from LEGO. The end result is really pleasing, with the LEGO Designer deftly capturing the proportions, and look of real Lovebirds, with slight exaggerations to get them to look like LEGO. If there are any concerns that LEGO CUUSOO have with creating multiple birds in one set and we have to choose just one then Bobby the Robin Red Breast would be my choice. He was the first bird I built and the inspiration behind this whole project. He is also one of the worlds most recognised small birds. If LEGO CUUSOO think that they could create a set using a different bird from my substantial collection then I would be happy for them to use one of these.
