This is a measurement that decides how much weight is required to create an indentation in the foam by 25% of it’s height. Having spent time in the upholstery business I’ve come to know enough about foam and have set about trying to help people understand it with greater ease when selecting foam for their own project. So, in this article, I’m going to explain what foam density and firmness are. Reconstituted foam (also known as chip foam or recon foam) unlike many other types of foam, is a recycled product.

An ottoman made using Rebond foam can be used as a footstool as well. They are easy to move around from one place to another, firm enough that they can be used as a coffee table or even as occasional seating when you have extra guests. In scenarios where foam has a dual purpose, perhaps a fold-out sofa bed, for example, becomes more difficult to cater for.

In general Rebond foam stands up to high impact/usage and can be used for applications that serve best for moderate to heavy residential and commercial uses. You don’t necessarily need machinery to tell you. In fact, you probably won’t have access to a machine to get any accurate readings. Do this for another foam and you may get a sense of which is heavier.

There are other factors that come into play regarding foam firmness. One of which is the amount of weight and comfort required.

This is a question that cannot really be answered, as it depends on your preference for support. For example, if you prefer softer support then you’re likely to be swayed towards memory foam. However, if you ‘sleep hot’ then the reflex foam might be a better avenue for you to go down. Generally, memory foam is going to give you a softer, warmer night’s sleep, whereas reflex foam will give you more of a firmer and cooler one. Although these are the general attributes of either foams, it’s still good practice to shop around and find the perfect mattress for you.
