About this deal

Dimensions, weight and color Information about the dimensions and the weight of the specific model with and without stand as well as the colors, in which it is offered to the market. The UE55NU8000 comes with Samsung’s One Remote, a small universal zapper that’s designed for day-to-day use. It’s comfortable to hold, intuitive to use, and even includes a built-in mic for voice control. A more traditionally styled controller is included, too, for those who prefer going old school. Desktop monitors and smart TVs experience a latency/lag in visualizing the information. The time in milliseconds that the display needs to visualize the signal input. It’s quite distinct through the mid-range and, again, quite decent levels of detail. Voices project forwards well, and they're actually quite nicely balanced – until they start to nudge into the upper frequency range. Once it reaches the higher frequencies, the BU8500 becomes quite hard and edgy, bringing sibilance and even a hint of coarseness to treble sounds. It’s a trait that’s only exacerbated by volume.

The ratio between the horizontal and the vertical side of the display. Some of the standard and widely used aspect ratios are 4:3, 5:4, 16:9 and 16:10. Voice control is through Bixby, as has been standard for the last few seasons, but this time, the option to choose Alexa is also built into the system (Google Assistant has been promised as a later update). Press the microphone button on the remote and ask for content genres, a specific film or channel, a change of inputs or to open an app, on top of all the standard services such as weather, news and egg timers. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 10% of the screen (measured in Nits) Information about whether there is a possibility for wall mounting according to the VESA Mounting Interface Standard (MIS).

Information about the maximum amount of time, in which the pixels change from one color to another. First the good stuff. When it comes to standard dynamic range (SDR), this TV is capable of delivering a very punchy image. Colours are suitably natural and, as a result, images look pleasingly realistic. There’s also plenty of brightness, and a solid contrast performance. Slim chassis, great spec and very agreeable picture performance is all well and good – but when it comes to audio performance, the Samsung BU8500 sounds like an affordable flatscreen TV of the old school. And that’s not necessarily a good thing. Approximate width of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the width is calculated from the diagonal and the aspect ratio. In terms of image upscaling, the processor is still very efficient. From SD content and live content up to 720p, 1080p and 4K, the TV did not show any obvious artifacts from the upscaling process. But keep in mind that the end result is always very dependent on the quality of the original content.

Now, we have the UE65BU8000, the step-down model from the BU8500 – both of which are new sets in Samsung’s affordable Crystal UHD range. The dynamic contrast shows the ratio between the brightest and the darkest color, which the display can reproduce over time, for example, in the course of playing a video. As you might guess from how thin the TV is, its LCD panel is lit from its edges rather than from directly behind, while the panel appears to be a VA one, as with most (though no longer all) Samsung TVs. The VA panel costs the picture contrast and colour from wide viewing angles but should, experience suggests, produce better contrast than the rival IPS type of screen. Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 29th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) The pixel pitch shows the distance from the centers of two neighboring pixels. In displays, which have a native resolution (the TFT ones, for example), the pixel pitch depends on the resolution and the size of the screen.Samsung’s set can, though, automatically switch into its fast-responding Game preset when it detects that a source compatible with HDMI’s ALLM switching feature has started to play a game. That Game preset gets picture lag down to a brilliantly speedy 9.8ms, too, while gamers may also be keen to explore the TV’s Gaming Hub, which brings together Samsung’s peerless roster of streamed gaming sources. The Samsung UE55NU8000 borrows its look from the company’s more expensive QLED TVs, although given the much lower price point, Samsung has cut some corners in terms of material and build quality. The UE55BU8500 is a decent enough TV. Its pictures don’t do anything aggressively wrong, retaining good balance and subtlety, and its sound is pleasant enough as long as you’re not watching anything too demanding. The dialogue is fairly murky, too. There’s no problem hearing or understanding what’s said, but it’s like listening with a layer of material between our ears and the characters’ voices.
